1959년 서울 출생. 평론가이자 큐레이터, 미술작가이자 영화감독이다. 서울대학교에서 서양화를, 캘리포니아 대학에서 사진을 전공했다. 박찬경은 한국사회 모더니티의 심층을 관통하는 유토피아의 열망을 정치적 이념, 민속신앙의 실천, 미디어의 기억이 얽힌 좌표 속에서 독특하게 해석해내는 작업을 보여준다. 주요 비디오작품으로는 <만신>(2013), <다시 태어나고 싶어요, 안에>(2010), <신도안>(2008) 등이 있다. 최근 스웨덴 출신의 작가 리나 셀렌더(Lina Selander)의 작품과 대칭 전시로 기획된 <파경: 최후의 수트라 암송>(2015)을 런던 시각예술국제연구소(INIVA)에서 선보였다. 에르메스코리아 미술상(2004), 베를린영화제 단편부문 황금곰상(2011), 전주국제영화제 한국장편경쟁부문 대상(2010) 등을 수상했으며, 서울국제미디어아트비엔날레 예술감독(2014), 독일오버하우젠단편영화제 경쟁부문 심사위원(2015)으로 초청된 바 있다.

Born in Seoul, 1959, Chan-kyong Park is a critic, a curator, an artist, and a film director. He majored in western painting at Seoul National University and photography at University of California. His works display the desire for a utopia in Korea’s modernity within the axis of political ideology, Korean folk religion, and media’s memory. Notable films include Manshin(2013), We Wish to Reincarnate in Paradise, Anyang, Paradise City(2010), and Sindoan(2008).
Recently, London’s Institute of International Visual Arts exhibited his Pa-Gyong: Last Sutra Recitation(2015), juxtaposing it with a work by Swedish artist Lina Selander. He won the Hermes Foundation Missulsang 2004, the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlinale(2011), and the Jeonju International Film Festival Korean Competition Best Feature Award(2010). He was invited to the Seoul International Media Art Biennale as an artistic director in 2014 and to the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival as a jury member for the competition section in 2015.
